Join us for a unique and enlightening tour of Arvada’s three cemeteries. Explore Arvada’s legacy from our early settlers, especially the West family, who have strong links to both the Arvada Cemetery and the Ralston Cemetery.
** 12:00 noon. Gather at the Arvada Cemetery, 5581 Independence at Grandview, for the only tour there. Our founders Benjamin Wadsworth and George Swadley will tell their story of pioneer Arvada. Here, Enoch West, the founder of the well-known local West family, will describe the family journey from ship builders in Nova Scotia to the farmer’s life in northwest Arvada.
** 2:00 pm. Meet at the Ralston Cemetery, aka Osborn Hill, at 6137 Holman Street, to hear about the life and times of the Brinkerhuff and Osborn families , who played a role in the establishment and care of this cemetery. Explore the little known history of the cemetery and the pioneer community it served, Ralston Crossing, where Indiana crosses Ralston Creek.
** 3:00 pm, Visit the Belgin Cemetery, located near Simms and W. 76th (on the south side of the Croke/Farmers High Line Canals) for a self-guided tour. This tour is for hearty souls and history buffs, as it involves walking some distance to a secluded site on the south side of the Canals. Arvada Historical Society members will be present to answer questions.
Tickets are $8 per person (children 6 and under are free). Purchase bracelets at the cemetery for admission to all three cemetery events. Admission includes a booklet with a tour map and additional information on the highlighted pioneers and cemeteries.
