Arvada Historical Society – 45th Annual Meeting @ Arvada Center
Aug 26 @ 8:30 am – 10:30 am

Join us in celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Arvada Historical Society at our Annual Meeting of the membership.  This annual breakfast will be followed by a brief business meeting to elect officers and Board members, followed by a speaker on some aspect of historical interest in Colorado.  The speaker will be determined soon and posted here.

The meeting will be held in the Arvada History Museum, established and the collection owned by the Arvada Historical Society.  The Arvada Center exists largely through the efforts of our founder, Lois Lindstrom Kennedy, who founded the Arvada Historical Society in 1972.

Past speakers have included “David Moffat”, a re-enactor describing the life and times of the man who dreamed of a railroad tunnel through the Rockies, which today carries both railroad traffic and water through the Moffat Tunnel.  We have also enjoyed a presentation on the historic Kimbrough House at Grandview and Carr by the current owner, John Marriott.

Cost:  to be determined, typically reasonable and about market price for breakfast.

2017 Annual Cemetery Tour @ Arvada Cemetery
Sep 23 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
2017 Annual Cemetery Tour @ Arvada Cemetery | Arvada | Colorado | United States

Our tour this year will highlight veterans of World War I, in recognition of the United States entry into the war in 1917.

The life and times of a few of these veterans will be revealed by presenters at each gravesite.  At least 52 WW I veterans are buried at the Arvada Cemetery, and many returned from war to make significant contributions to their home town.

Our tour guides will share the history of the Arvada Cemetery as they lead you to the highlighted gravesites.  Along the way, learn about Arvada notables buried here, including the first burial – Baby Beeman in 1862 – and Arvada’s founder, Benjamin F. Wadsworth.

Refreshments and water provided at no charge.

Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

The first guided tour begins at noon, with additional groups starting every 30 minutes thereafter.  The last tour will begin at 2:30 pm.  Each tour lasts a little over an hour.

Cost:  $8 per person, children under age 6 are free.
